  • Carpet has been installed, the walls have been painted, and decorations are going up at Community National Bank & Trust in Newton. With about a month left to go until it is open for business, the new bank building is almost complete.
"Hopefully people will feel welcome," said bank president Dwight Ray, adding he's excited about how the design has turned out. "We want folks to feel comfortable in here."
Community National Bank & Trust has 26 locations in 22 communities across southeast and south-central Kansas. The Newton branch has been operating in a temporary location at the Old Mill Plaza until the new building at 127 N. Main St. is finished.
The new building will feature three teller stations in the lobby and two drive-in teller stations; a board room that can be used for video conferencing and community events; offices; and a customer reception area with TV and coffee available.
The bank also is celebrating being recognized as one of five finalists for a state business award, the "Governor's Award of Excellence."
The new bank's target opening date is July 31.
