    Municipal Pool at Athletic Park now open. Public swim hours: 1 to 5 p.m. daily and Family Swim, 7 to 9 p.m. weekdays. Municipal Pool available to rent Sat. and Sun. evenings. For more information, call 284-6087.
    Discovery Camp — 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 10. The center has planned a wide variety of activities, including swimming, library days, craft projects, Adventure Day trips and more for children ages 5 through 12. The program is a state-licensed day care and an SRS-approved program. Discovery Camp will participate in the summer food program. Registration packets and medical release forms are required and are available at the Newton Activity Center front desk.
    Adventure Days — Day Trips for children ages 5 through 12. June trips include:
    • June 28 — Fishing Derby at East Lake. • July 3 — Rock River Rapids Water Park in Derby. • July 9 — Wichita Ice Center. • July 12 — Exploration Place in Wichita. • July 17 — McPherson Water Park. • July 18 — WATER Center in Wichita. • July 24 — West Acres Bowl in Wichita. • July 25 — Kenwood Cove Water Park in Salina. • July 31 — Salt City Splash in Hutchinson.
    Women’s Self Defense — 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 6, for ages 12 and older. Learn how to defend yourself when someone is trying to attack you. With the guidance of NRC Tae Kwon Do instructor Dany Monares, you will gain self confidence and learn effective techniques to defend yourself against an attacker.
    Swimming Lessons — Third session starts July 8. For all ages. Group classes offer eight levels of instruction. Lessons can be taken at the Newton Activity Center Pool or the Newton Municipal Pool. Morning, evening or Saturday lessons available. Registration deadline: July 2. Private lessons are also offered.     Scout Night at the Municipal Pool — 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 12. Boys and girls of all ages involved in scouting can swim for 75 cents by showing proof of membership. Scout leaders swim for free.
    Community Garage Sale — 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13. If you are looking to get rid of some old stuff, rent a booth at our sale and leave all of the advertising up to us. Event will be held in the Newton Activity Center’s climate-controlled gymnasium.
    Youth Triathlon — 8 a.m. Saturday, July 14. Fun-run followed by biking and then swimming. For ages 7 through 14 years old. For more information, call Vicki at 284-6087.
    Art Camp I — 9 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday, July 15 through July 19 for ages 5-8 and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 15 through July 19 for ages 9-12. Plan to experiment and learn with a different art form each day, from paper mache to polymer clay, drawing to painting, and more! Registration deadline: July 3. Instructor: Beth Burns.
    Page 2 of 2 - Art Around the World — 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, July 15 through July 19 for ages 5-8 and 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 15 through July 19 for ages 9-12. We will travel around the world through art by exploring the art of different countries and cultures, and doing our own versions. Expect to get messy, have fun and learn a lot.     NRC/Eastgate Lanes Bowling Clinic — 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, July 15 through July 19 for ages 7-13 and 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 11 through July 15 for ages 14-18.
