  • Marjory Ann Hindsley McReynolds, 86, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
She was born Feb. 18, 1927, in Zenith, the daughter of Carl and Beulah Miles Hindsley. Marjory grew up in Rozel, in Pawnee County.
Marjory held many fond memories of her youth that she shared. Her father, Carl, was a district instructor for the Santa Fe Railroad and Marjory and her mother traveled a few times with him when he left for business trips to various locations.
As a child, Marjory enjoyed riding her bike to her father’s office when her mother was away at some church activities, roller skating and climbing trees. She especially liked dolls, and made several imaginary trips on an imaginary airplane to New York City.
Her mother enrolled her and her sister, Arlene, in art classes and piano lessons, neither of which Marjory liked. Grade school in Rozel was an especially fun time. At age 10, she had the lead in the school Christmas play and was a cheerleader in seventh and eighth grades.
A graduate of Hutchinson Community College, she attended Sterling College and Kansas State University. Marjory was a Stephen Minister at First United Methodist Church; served on the Hutchinson Community College Board of Ministries; a reader for KHCC radio for the blind; member of Epsilon Sigma Omicron Sorority; Daughters of the American Revolution; Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War; a charter member of Second Century Club General Federation of Women; First United Methodist Church; and Double Circle Class.
Marjory worked in accounting and as a receptionist for the Medical Center, and was personnel director for Calhouns Clothing Store.
On Aug. 20, 1977, she married Kenneth McReynolds at Hutchinson. He survives.
Other survivors include her children, Lou (Walt) Abildgaard, Hutchinson, and Javen L. (Beth) Schmucker, Newton; Kenneth’s children, Keith McReynolds, Kyle, Texas, and Karol Piehler, Osborne; grandchildren, Miles Everhart, Hutchinson, Javen P. (Kasie) Schmucker, Wichita, Marcie (Trent) Arrowsmith, Newton, John R. (Denise) Abildgaard, Illinois, Phyllis (David) Hoover, Hutchinson, and Shelly (Doug) Bird, Colwich; great-grandchildren, Devon Everhart, Luccas Schmucker, Cattie Arrowsmith, Kelsey Howell, Jordyn Bird, Hunter Bird, and Abby Sealy; and a sister, Arlene Melville, Platteville, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Walter Hindsley.
A celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with Pastors Mark Conard and Jeanine Rishel presiding. A reception and luncheon will immediately follow at the church. Private family interment will be held.
