WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts lost both ends of a day-night doubleheader Tuesday against the Gary SouthShore Railcats in American Association play at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Wichita lost the first game 7-6 and the second game 7-4 in 11 innings.

In the nightcap, Wichita took a 4-3 lead after seven innings. Gary tied the game in the eighth. Mike Massaro hit a two-run triple for Gary in the 11th. Massaro scored on a wild pitch.

Massaro finished the game four for six hitting with two runs scored and three RBIs. Adam Klein finished two for four with three runs scored.

John Rodriguez, Abel Nieves and David Amberson each went two for five hitting. Ryan Khoury, C.J. Ziegler and Nieves each drove in a run.

Clay Zavada posted the win for Gary. Josh Dew took the loss.

In the morning game, Gary scored four runs in the top of the first, but Wichita came back in the bottom of the first with five run.

Gary tied the game with a run in the fourth, but Wichita regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth.

In the top of the ninth, Wichita gave up three walks, including one with bases loaded to tie the game. Zac Mitchell hit a sacrifice fly for the go-ahead run.

Wichita's Ziegler went two for four hitting with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Brent Clevlen hit home run and drove in three.

Jake Kahaulelio, Nieves, Scott Dalrymple and Amberson all finished two for four hitting for Wichita.

Dew took the loss for Wichita in relief.

For Gary, Daniel Pulfer finished two for four with two RBIs. Drew Martinez finished two for four with one RBI. Craig Maddox, Zac Mitchell, Brian Kolb, Drew Martinez and Chase Tucker each drove in a run.

Taylor Sewitt pitched the eighth inning for the win. Zavada pitched the ninth for the save.

Wichita falls to 20-12. Gary improves to 16-14. The two teams meet at 7:05 p.m. today at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
