    to have car wash
    The Newton High School football parents group will have a fund-raising car wash from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the AutoZone and Walgreens in Newton.
    Proceeds benefit the NHS football team. The car wash is by donation only.
    Wingnuts derail
    SouthShore Railcats
    WICHITA — Jon Link pitched a complete game for the Wichita Wingnuts, allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in an 8-2 win over the Gary SouthShore Railcats Monday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita.
    Will Krout took the loss for Gary, allowing seven runs on 10 hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Kyle Lindquist finished the game for the Railcats.
    John Rodriguez went three for three hitting with a home run and three RBIs. Brent Clevlen added a home run, going two for four with three RBIs. Ryan Khoury went two for four with an RBI. Jared McDonald also drove in a run.
    Clevlen was signed Monday by the Wingnuts. Last season, Clevlen played in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. He played for Class AA Mobile in the Southern League, where he hit .260 with 10 home runs and 39 RBIs in 67 games. He also played for Class AAA Reno of the Pacific Coast League, where he hit .377 with three home runs and 17 RBIs in 31 games. He helped lead Reno to the PCL title and the Class AAA championships.
    Clevlen played for Wichita in 2011.
    Daniel Pulfer drove in both runs for Gary.
    Wichita improves to 20-10, leading the American Association Central Division by 2 1/2 games over Lincoln. Gary is five games behind Wichita at 14-14.
    The two teams meet again at 11 a.m. and 7:05 p.m. today.
    Wichita also signed right-handed pitcher Kyle Wahl from Rio Grande Valley of the United League, where he had six saves, 16 strikeouts and four walks. Wahl missed most of 2012 with an injury. He played in the Minnesota Twins organization in 2011 in the Gulf Coast League.
    David Amberson was named the AA batter of the week for the week ending June 16.
    Amberson was 14 of 24 in seven games last week, scoring seven runs and driving in seven. Amberson was the second Wingnut honored.
