  • The Newton 1 12 and under Babe Ruth softball team opened the season 0-5.
    May 28, the team lost to Haysville 1 15-13. Madeline Eustace and Searra Gomez-Garcia pitched for Newton.
    June 4, the team lost to Haysville 2 15-12. Faye Smith and Eustace pitched for Newton.
    June 6, the team lost to Belle Plaine 15-0. Smith and Eustace pitched.
    June 8, Newton lost to Wellington 1 20-1. Cattie Arrowsmith and Eustace pitched.
    June 11, Newton lost to Rose Hill 15-10. Smith and Eustace pitched.
    Wild to face Beef in playoffs
    PARK CITY — The Wichita Wild takes on the Omaha Beef at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the semifinals of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League playoffs at Ralston Arena in Omaha.
    Both teams finished 10-2, tied with the Sioux City Bandits for the CPIFL regular-season title. Sioux City drew the top seed on tie-breaker and will host the first-year Salina Bombers.
    Wichita downed the Beef 29-17 April 20 at Hartman Arena. Wichita was 6-0 at home this season and 4-2 on the road.
    Wichita ended the regular season with a 74-16 win Saturday at home against the Mid-Missouri Outlaws. Omaha was upset by the Kansas City Renegades 42-27. Both teams have a loss to the Renegades this season.
    Wichita is led by quarterback Rocky Hinds, who has hit 153 of 251 passes for 1,635 yards with 42 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Omaha's James McNear hit 183 of 267 passes for 1,678 yards with six interceptions and 39 touchdowns.
    Wichita running back Tywon Hubbard has 134 carries for 599 yards and 16 touchdowns. Omaha's R.J. Reynolds has 85 carries for 383 yards and 15 touchdowns, followed by McNear with 56 carries for 347 yards and five touchdowns.
