The Newton Rebels got back on the winning side of the slate Thursday night with a 10-4 win over the Hutchinson Monarchs in Walter Johnson League at Klein-Scott Field.

The Rebels took a 7-3 lead through the first three innings and pulled away with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Newton's Anthony Quiles went four for four hitting with a home run, the Rebels' first of the season. Justin Harris weny two for four with three RBIs. Toby Cornejo had two RBIs. Cooper Langley went two for four with an RBI. Gene Nanney and Nick Kolley each added an RBI. Mason Marshall went two for four hitting.

For Hutchinson, Josh Kunzmann went three for four hitting. Quentin Crandall went two for five with an RBI. Samuel Crabtree added an RBI.

Newton High grad Storm Marlar went six innings for the win, allowing three earned runs on eight hits with two walks and five RBIs. Dylan Gadberry and Tyler Bishop each pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout.

For Hutchinson, Tyler Huffstickler took the loss. Devlin Osbment and Cash Pechin also pitched.

Hutchinson falls to 5-6. Newton improves to 10-3 and plays at Topeka at 6:55 p.m. today, followed by home games against Valley Center at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
