The Newton Junior Knights American Legion baseball team needed another dramatic comeback to stay unbeaten.
Down 8-0 going into the bottom of the second, the Junior Knights outscored the Andover Central Jaguars 10-1 to claim a 10-9 win in the second game of Monday's doubleheader at Klein-Scott Field.
In a previously reported game, the Junior Knights overcame a 5-1 deficit for a 9-8 win over the Jaguars earlier in the evening.
The second game was called in the bottom of the fifth because of the late start. Cole Sturgeon hit a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to put the Knights over the top.
Newton is 8-0 at the start of the season.
Cole Sturgeon finished the game two for four hitting with three RBIs. Cole Koerner and Jack Kingsley each added two RBIs.
For Andover Central, Peyton Huslig was two for two hitting with two RBIs. Brock Schaffer and Miles Redfern each added two RBIs. Kevin Olney went two for two hitting. Andrew Rafferty went two for three.
Chad Martinez pitched 3 2-3 innings of relief for the win. Dakota Rodd took the loss for Andover Central.
Newton plays at 6 p.m. today against the Andover Trojans in Andover, followed by an added double header against the Salina Hawks at 6 p.m. Friday in Salina. Thursday's game at Arkansas City was canceled because Arkansas City didn't have enough players to field a Junior Legion team.
