  • Newton grad 10th at tourney
    WICHITA — Newton High School grad Lane Pauls tied for 10th at the Kansas Public Links Championships Saturday and Sunday at the Auburn Hills Golf Course in Wichita. Pauls shot a 79-75—154. He Pauls finished 12 shots behind winner Benjamin Lowman of Manhattan, who finished two under par at 74-68—142. Steve Newman of Wichita was second at 72-71—143. Doug Kaup of Phillipsburg was third at 72-73—145.

    Saddle club to host rodeo
    The Newton Saddle Club is hosting a Kansas Junior Rodeo Association youth rodeo 8 a.m. June 15 and 16 at the Newton Saddle Club Arena on West First Street. There will be a Cowboy Church service Saturday night. The rodeo will feature youths ages 18 and under from all over the state trying to qualify for the finals in Concordia. Events included are barrel racing, pole bending, sheep riding, goat tying, calf roping, breakaway roping, team roping, steer wrestling and steer riding. A concession stand will be available both days.
    Wild wins season finale
    PARK CITY — The Wichita Wild ended the regular season with a 74-16 win over the Mid-Missouri Outlaws Saturday at Hartman Arena. Wichita ends the regular season 10-2, tying for the Champions Professional Indoor Football League regular-season title with Sioux City and Omaha. Mid-Missouri ends the season 0-12. Wichita will get the third seed in the Champions Professional Indoor Football League playoffs and play Saturday at Omaha. Wichita led 49-6 at the half. Rocky Hinds hit seven of 10 passes for 69 yards and four touchdowns. Travis Ribbing rushed for 51 yards and two touchdown. Tywon Hubbard, Nick Hardesty and Hinds each rushed for a score. Tim Simmons caught two touchdown passes. Jarell Kelly and Ribbing each caught one. Bethel grad James McCartney scored on a 10-yard fumble recovery return. McCartney added two solo tackles. Kiaree Daniels had 11 total tackles for Wichita.
