The Newton Junior Knights spotted the Andover Central Jaguars six unearned runs, but came back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and three more in the bottom of the seventh to claim a 9-8 win Monday at Klein-Scott Field. The second game was in progress at the Kansan's deadline. Newton trailed 5-1 through three innings, giving up four runs on four errors in the top of the first. Newton added a run each in the fourth and fifth innings, but a two-out error led to two more Jaguar runs in the sixth. After three Junior Knight runs in the bottom of the sixth, Central scored a run in the top of the seventh. Newton opened the bottom of the seventh with a Jordan Palmer walk. Palmer stole second and went to third on a Cole Koerner ground out. Regan McCloud then drew a walk, followed by a Cole Sturgeon walk. Drake Sturgeon doubled to tie the game. Jack Kingsley was intentionally walked, which re-loaded the bases. Brennan Barger then singled to score Cole Sturgeon and end the game. Barger finished two for three hitting with two RBIs. Drake Sturgeon went two for four with two RBIs. Kingsley also finished with two RBIs. For Andover Central, Brock Schaffer went two for three hitting. Dakota Rodd went two for two with an RBI. Koerner got the win for Newton in relief of Kingsley and McCloud. Kingsley struck out three. McCloud struck out two. Kevin Olney took the loss for Central in relief of Schaffer and Andrew Rafferty. Newton is 7-0 and plays the Andover Trojans Wednesday in Andover.
