    TOPEKA — Ruthe Spexarth of Halstead was honored by the Kansas State High School Activities Association for 20 years of service as a high school official. Officials are honored for 20, 30, 40 and 50 years of service.
    Racing scheduled at 81 Speedway
    PARK CITY — On the schedule at 81 Speedway this weekend is two days of racing. Racing Saturday is 360 sprint cars, modified, AAA modified, rookie modified, street stock and thumper divisions. Gates open at 5 p.m. Racing starts at 7 p.m. Racing Sunday is late models, 305 sprint cars, hobby stock, hornet, youth hornet and mod lites. Gates open at 4 p.m. Racing starts at 6 p.m.
    Wingnut takes weekly honors
    WICHITA — Wichita Wingnut center fielder Jared McDonald was named the American Association batter of the week for the week ending Sunday. In six games, McDonald hit .591 with five doubles, seven runs scored and six RBIs. Wichita was 5-1 for the week. He had a four-hit game against Amarillo, scoring the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. McDonald is batting .370 for the season.
    Wingnuts edge El Paso Diablos
    WICHITA — Abel Nieves hit an RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Wichita Wingnuts to a 5-4 win over the El Paso Diablos Wednesday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in American Association play. Down 4-1 after five innings of play, Ryan Khoury hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Wichita opened with a Stephen Yoo double, followed by a Nieves single. Colt Loehrs hit a pinch hit double to score Yoo. David Amberson followed with a sacrifice fly to score Nieves. Nieves finished the game three for four hitting with two RBIs. Jake Kahaulelio went two for five hitting. Wichita starter Junior Guerra went seven innings for a no-decision, allowing four runs on five hits with seven walks and five strikeouts. Lincoln Holdzkom pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning. Josh Dew, 2-0, pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the win. For El Paso, Jonathan Cisneros drove in two runs. Mitch Einertson added an RBI. Mike Koons took the loss pitching for the Diablos.
    Wichita is 13-6. El Paso is 5-13. The two teams meet again at 7:05 p.m. today at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
