    Meet-and-greet?slated Tuesday

    A Meet The Coach Night featuring incoming Newton High School football coach Nate Wollenberg will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the NHS commons/auditorium area.?Wollenberg will host a short presentation, followed by a chance to meet the coach and ask questions. Refreshments will be served.?All community members, parents and high school, middle school and Warrior football players are invited to attend.

    Hesston signs?Carroll grad

    HESSTON — Hesston College men's basketball coach Dustin Galyon signed Austin Larkin of Wichita to a letter of intent to play for HC beginning with the 2013-14 school year.?Larkin is a 6-foot guard from Bishop Carroll High School, where he averaged 4.7 points a game as a senior.?He was an All-Greater Wichita Athletic League honorable mention as a senior.?“Austin has the ability to shoot the basketball,” said Hesston coach Dustin Galyon. “He is incredibly athletic and we believe he can help us spread the floor on the offensive end. He has an incredible work ethic and a bright career as a college player.”?He is a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church of Wichita.

    NORMAL, Ill. — Wichita State pitcher A.J. Ladwig tossed his first complete game of the season in an 11-4 win over Creighton in an elimination game of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament Wednesday in Normal.?Wichita State, 35-26, plays either Indiana State or Southern Illinois at 9 a.m. today.?Creighton ends the regular season 30-18. The Blue Jays leave the MVC for the new Big East next season.?Ladwig, 5-5, allowed four runs on 10 hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. Creighton starter Austin Groth lasted just six batters and took the loss to fall 2-2.?The Blue Jays used seven pitchers.?WSU's Johnny Coy went three for five hitting with a home run and two RBIs. Casey Gillaspie was two for two with a home run and three RBIs. Erik Harbutz went three for five with an RBI. Tyler Baker went two for five with two RBIs.?For Creighton, Reagan Fowler went two for four with an RBI. Mike Gerber hit a solo home run.

    GARY, Ind. — The Wichita Wingnuts avoided a sweep at the hands of the Gary SouthShore RailCats with a 5-1 win Wednesday in American Association play in Gary.?Wichita scored four runs in the first inning and added one more in the fourth.?Wingnuts pitcher Christopher Smith went seven innings, allowing a run on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts.?C.J. Ziegler went three for three hitting with a three-run home run. John Rodriguez went two for four hitting with an RBI. Jared McDonald added an RBI.?Gary pitcher Stephen Hiscock took the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout. Cristian Guerrero went two for four hitting for Gary with an RBI.?Both teams are 4-3 and in a four-way tie for first in the AA Central Division with Sioux City and Lincoln.
