MOBILE, Ala. — The Bethel College women's tennis team had several close matches, but couldn't turn them the Threshers' way in a 7-2 dual meet loss to Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday at the NAIA National Championships at the Mobile Tennis Center. Bree Honer and Ashley Koester won at second doubles for the Threshers. Madelyn Weaver won at sixth singles. "I am really proud of this group of women," Bethel coach Lonnie Isaac said. "We pushed this match to the very end and really made the no. 10 team in the country work to win. We knew there were five points out there for us and we came very close. Bree and Ashley played a great doubles match and then Madelyn won in straight sets at six. Madelyn might be our most improved player this year and it was great to see her get a singles win. Prior to this year we had only won one match at nationals so it was great to get some more wins. All of our players competed hard and played well." Bethel ends the season 14-4. "We lose two great seniors in Miranda (Weaver) and Shayne (Runion) and also lose Ashley Koester," Isaac said. "Miranda and Shayne were part of some great moments during their careers and will really be missed."
