  • MOUNDRIDGE — The bats fell silent for the Moundridge High School baseball team Tuesday in the finals of the Class 2-1A regionals in Moundridge. The Wildcats opened the day with a 7-6 semifinal win over Canton-Galva. In the finals, Moundridge fell to rival Inman 8-1. "Our bats all of a sudden went silent in the regional championship game," Moundridge coach Lynn Eichelberger said. "Our pitching was good for six innings, but once again, we walked and beaned too many batters to win. Inman scored their first four runs on two hits. Other than (Garrett) Higgins, we struggled at the plate." In the championship game, Inman score a run in the second inning, a run in the third and two runs in the sixth inning. Jayden Schmidt drove in a run for Moundridge in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Inman replied with four runs in the top of the seventh to put things away. Wyatt Regehr went three for five hitting for Inman with four RBIs. Layne Richert, Taylor Almquist and Greyson Wood each drove in a run. Inman's Blake Drueker went four innings for the win, allowing four hits, two walks and a strikeout. Treyton DeVore finished out the game for the save, allowing a run on one hit with three strikeouts. Higgins went two for three hitting for Moundridge. Victor Gallegos took the loss pitching. Higgins and Shawn Wadley each pitched as well. Inman, 11-9, advances to the state tournament next week in Emporia. In the semifinals, Moundridge trailed 4-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but outscored the Eagles 6-2 in the remaining innings. "Chase Stucky had a sacrifice fly RBI to end the game in the bottom of the seventh with one out and the bases loaded," Eichelberger said. "Stucky, Garrett Higgins and Daniel Ratzlaff all had multiple hits with Ratzlaff having three RBI's. Higgins and Ratzlaff both pitched well for us. Give Canton Galva credit, they played well." Stucky, Higgins and Ratzlaff all ended the game two for four hitting. Stucky, Hunter Enyart, Higgins and Schmidt each drove in a run. Higgins pitched 2 1-3 innings of relief for the win. Starter Ratzlaff struck out six in 4 2-3 innings. Higgins struck out four. Connor Farnham took the loss for Canton-Galva, 3-13. Moundridge ends the season 11-11.
