  • NHS Baseball games canceled
    The Newton High School baseball triangular scheduled for Thursday against Bishop Carroll and Goddard Eisenhower at Fischer Field was canceled and will not be made up. Newton plays today at Salina Central in a single game make-up of an earlier rain out.
    Hesston sets records at CKL
    STERLING — The Hesston High School track teams set six records Thursday at the Central Kansas League track and field championships in Sterling. Ali Jost won the 100-meter dash in 12.85 and the 200-meter dash in 26.21. Jost broke two records she set in 20-11. year. The 4x100-meter relay team of Jessanna Nebel, Jost, Hannah Schmitt and Taylor Valdez won in 50.21, breaking a record set by Hesston in 2011. Schmitt set the record in the high jump at 5-2. For the Hesston boys, Ryan Schadler won the 100-meter dash in 11.16 and the 200-meter dash in 23.10. He broke his own record from 2011 in the 100 and a record set last year in the 200. The Hesston boys won the meet, while the girls took third.
    NRCA sprints to race at 81
    PARK CITY — The National Championship Racing Association Sprint Car division will be featured Saturday at 81 Speedway in Park City. Drivers expected to compete include Among the tour regulars expected to compete include C.J. Johnson, Mike Peters, Jeremy Campbell, Luke Cranston, Jeff Stasa, Jon Freeman, J.D. Johnson, Don Droud, Jr., Jake Martens, Danny Jennings, Adam Gullion, Jason Danley, Danny Wood and Mike Goodman. Modified, AAA modified and rookie modified also are expected to compete. Gates open at 5 p.m. Racing starts at 7 p.m.
