Halstead drops two to Hillsboro
HILLSBORO The Halstead High School baseball team dropped a pair of games to Central Kansas League rival Hillsboro Friday in Hillsboro. Hillsboro won the first game 11-5 and the second game 12-2. The second game was called after five innings on the 10-run rule. In the first game, Halstead took a 5-3 lead after four innings, but gave up six runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh. Hillsboro's Dylan Nelson pitched four innings of relief for the win, allowing one hit, two walks and four strikeouts. Jordan Faul struck out six in three innings. Halstead used five pitchers with Blake Beckett taking the loss. Six of Hillsboro's runs were unearned on five Dragon errors. For Halstead at the plate, Joseph Stovall went three for four with three RBIs. Shane VanSteenburh went three for three with an RBI. Dylan Ratzlaff went two for three with an RBI. For Hillsboro, Lucas Sinclair went two for three with three RBIs. Josh Funk went three for four with two RBIs. Faul went two for three with an RBI. Nathan Unruh went two for four with an RBI. In the second game, Hillsboro's Kale Arnold went the distance, striking out five. Coby Jarrell took the loss for Halstead. Arnold went three for four hitting with two RBIs. Funk went three for three hitting with two RBIs. Sinclair went two for three hitting with two RBIs. Unruh drove in two runs. Nelson went two for two with four runs scored. VanSteenburg and Devan Herb each drove in a run for Halstead. Halstead hosts Marion at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Dragon softball team drops two
HILLSBORO The Halstead High School softball team dropped a pair of games to Hillsboro Friday in Central Kansas League play. Hillsboro won 13-3 and 16-1. Scoring details were not reported. Halstead hosts Hesston at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Moundridge takes two from Herington
MOUNDRIDGE The Moundridge Wildcats claimed a pair of non-league wins over Herington Friday in Moundridge. Moundridge won the first game 9-1 and the second game 15-0 in four innings on the 15-run rule. "(In the first game,) Jaden Schmidt pitched well on senior night giving up only three hits," Moundridge coach Lynn Eichelberger said. "On a very windy day blowing in, we manufactured runs by stealing bases and a lot of sacrifice bunts with runners on base. I was pleased how we executed playing small ball. Victor Gallegos had a bases loaded clearing triple in the fifth inning to extend our cushion. "(In the second game,) Garret Higgins pitched had a very nice outing as the only two hits he gave up were bloop singles. Chase Stucky, Higgins, and Shawn Wadley had multi-hits games with Higgins also having three RBI's." In the first game, Schmidt walked two and struck out five. Alex Keithline took the loss. Gallegos finished two for three hitting with three RBIs. Higgns went two for four. Daniel Ratzlaff and A.J. Durst each drove in two runs. In the second game, Higgins walked two and struck out seven for the win. Ty Morris took the loss for Herington. Higgins went two for two hitting. Stucky went three for three with two RBIs, Gallegos added two RBIs. Wadley went two for three.
