The post-season chances for the Bethel College softball team were put in jeopardy after a pair of losses to McPherson College Thursday at Kelsch Field. Bethel lost the first game 9-8 and the second game 13-10. Bethel falls to 4-23, 3-13 in KCAC play. McPherson improves to 5-20, 3-11 in conference play. The top eight teams advance into next week's conference post-season tournament and the Threshers fall into ninth place with two games remaining. McPherson now holds the tie-breaker over Bethel. In the first game Bethel took a 4-2 lead, but gave up six runs in the top of the fifth. Kelly Toll took the loss for Bethel, allowing eight runs — two earned — on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Rachel Unruh allowed an unearned run on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Mary Sheridan went two for three hitting for Bethel with two home runs and five RBIs. Sarah Cunningham went two for four with an RBI. Kylee Gragg hit a solo home run. Shiann Wickham went two for three hitting with three runs scored. In the second game, Bethel led 4-1 after the first inning, but gave up five runs in the second inning and three more in the third, forcing the Threshers to play from behind the rest of the game. Bethel outhit McPherson 17-13, but four errors allowed three unearned runs. Cunningham went four for four hitting with a home run and four RBIs. Sheridan went two for four with a home run. Gragg went three for four with two RBIs. Wickham went three for five with two runs scored and an RBI. Becca Bradley went two for four. Lakin Thompson took the loss for Bethel, allowing four earned runs on six hits. Chelsea Grandstaff finished the game, allowing six earned runs on seven hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Bethel ends the regular season at 5 p.m. today against Friends. Bethel needs at least one win against the Falcons, who have clinched the regular-season title, along with McPherson dropping the remainder of its games.
