The Remington Broncos claimed top individual and team honors Thursday at the eight-team Sedgwick Invitational at the Newton Public Golf Course. Remington shot a team score of 335, edging Heart of America League rival Hutchinson Trinity by three strokes. Halstead was third at 344. Sedgwick shot a 414 and Peabody-Burns shot a 430. Junior Alex Carr led the Broncos with a 78, beating Greg Flores of Trinity by three strokes. "I started with a birdie, then I had a par and a double (bogey)," Carr said. "I started with a 40 on the front. I didn't start very good on the back, but then I had several pars and shot a 38." It was Carr's first tournament win of the season. "I've been in the top five all season, but this was the first win of the year," Carr said. "I was hitting everything pretty well. I've shot low 80s in every round before today. I just have to stay consistent." "It was a great round," Remington coach Judy Noller said. "They've been playing well all year. They really enjoyed this. They all played well. This was our best team score. Alex shot a 78. I don't know if he's shot in the 70s yet this season. I was very pleased." It was the Broncos second win of the season. "We won at Eureka," Noller said. "We got second at Herington and Bluestem. We haven't had many tournaments because of the weather. We have Marion, the league tournament and regionals. We lost two varsity tournaments because of the weather. We just have to stay consistent. Most of my kids are seniors and they have come along this year." Other area medalists included Taylor Nemeth of Halstead in third at 82, Paul Janzen of Remington in fourth at 83, Trey Schmidt of Goessel in sixth at 84, Cory Armandariz in seventh at 85 and Grant Claassen of Remington in eighth at 85.
