Newton camps scheduled
The following Newton High School basketball camps are scheduled for this summer: • Boys and girls entering grades one through three will be 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. June 24 to 27. • Boys and girls entering grades four through six will be 12:30 to 2 p.m. June 24 through 27. • Boys entering grades seven and eight will be 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. June 24 through 27. • The high school boys' team camp is 9:30 a.m. to noon May 28 through 30. Individual instruction is available 10 a.m. to noon June 3 through 6, June 10 through 13, June 17 through 20 and June 24 through 27. All camps will be at Ravenscroft Gym. Wild stops Omaha Beef
PARK CITY — The Wichita Wild stopped the Omaha Beef 29-17 Saturday in Champions Professional Indoor Football League play at Hartman Arena. It was the first loss of the season for the Beef, now 4-1. Wichita improves to 6-1. Wichita trailed 17-16 at the half, but held the Beef scoreless in the second half. Wichita quarterback Rocky Hinds hit 17 of 31 passes for 189 yards with two touchdowns and an interceptions. Hinds also rushed for a touchdown. Joe Kassanavoid and Tim Simmons each caught a touchdown pass. Alex Fambrough hit three of six field goal attempts, with a long of 41 yards. Fambrough hit two of three PAT kicks. On defense, Kendrick Harper, Chris Hemphill and Klaree Daniels each had five total tackles. Hemphill, Harper and Dan Kontz each had an interception. Bethel grad James McCartney had three solo tackles, including a sack. For Omaha, R.J. Rollins rushed for 49 yards on five carries with a touchdown. Chuck Wright hit 12 of 25 passes for 76 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. Jusmon Rivers caught the touchdown pass. Mike Stillmock hit one of three field goal attempts. Wichita heads to Sedalia, Mo., at 7:05 p.m. Saturday for its first-ever meeting against the Mid-Missouri Outlaws.
NCRA Sprints to race at 81
PARK CITY — The NCRA 360 Sprint Car Series will run at 81 Speedway Saturday. Among the top contenders are Mike Peters and Jeremy Campbell, both of Wichita, defending series champion C.J. Johnson of Quinter and Don Droud Jr., of Lincoln, Neb.
HALSTEAD — Results of the boys' discus were incorrectly entered at the Nightingale Invitational track meet, which ran in Friday's Kansan, which affected the final team scores. The correct teams scores were Marion 86, Berean Academy 81, Hutchinson Trinity 76, Hesston 72, Hillsboro 68, Wichita Independent 45, Halstead 39, Douglass 20, Conway Springs 16.5, Sedgwick 14, Haven 13, Kingman 12, Cheney 11, Remington 2, Sunrise Christian Academy 1.
