    • The Newton C team baseball game Thursday against Derby was postponed (no make-up-date set). • The Newton junior varsity track meet Thursday at McPherson was canceled. (The meet will not be made up). • The Bethel-Kansas Wesleyan men’s and women’s tennis dual meets have been postponed (make-up date Tuesday as a triangular with Bethany).
    Campus seniors sign with BC
    Three Campus High School seniors signed letters of intent to play soccer at Bethel College beginning this fall. Players signed for the women’s team include Syrena Ehlert and Clara Mann. Joe Thompson was signed for the men’s squad. Thompson also signed for the competitive cheer squad. “We are very excited about the addition of Syrena and Ciarra to the Thresher women's soccer program,” Bethel women’s coach Anthony Turini said. “I've gotten to know Ciara and Syrena well during the recruiting process. Both girls have great attitudes and I know that they will come in and work hard to help us move the Women's Soccer program at Bethel in the right direction.” Mann is in her first season at Campus, where she transfered from Oklahoma. “(I’m) extremely excited to have the chance to further my soccer career by attending Bethel," Mann said. Ehlert intends to major in nursing at Bethel. “I am beyond excited to play soccer for Bethel,” she said. The Bethel women open the season Aug. 28 at Concordia (Neb.). “(I’m) "glad Joe chose Bethel,” Bethel men’s soccer coach Brennan Peacock said. “He will be a great addition to our team and the Bethel community.” “Joe has a great attitude, is a hard worker and we can't wait to get him here to join our squad,” cheer coach Jill Fenske said. The competitive cheer squad begins its second year this fall.
    Wingnuts set spring schedule
    WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts open spring training games 2:05 p.m. May 5 against Friends University at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Wichita follows with Emporia State at 6:05 p.m. May 6. Wichita hosts the Kansas City T-Bones at 11:05 p.m. May 8. May 10 at Haymaker Park in Lincoln, Neb., Wichita plays the T-Bones at 6 p.m. and the Lincoln Salt Dogs at 8 p.m. May 11, Wichita plays at 2 p.m. game at Sioux Falls. May 12, Wichita plays the T-Bones at 2:05 p.m. at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin, Mo. Wichita closes out its exhibition schedule ay 11:05 p.m. May 15 at home against Winnipeg. The Wingnuts open the regular season May 16 at home against the T-Bones.
    81 Speedway to race Saturday
    PARK CITY — Nine divisions will open regular-season point races Saturday at 81 Speedway. Heat races begin at 2 p.m. Gates open at noon. Divisions in competition include 360 Sprint Cars, Modified, AAAModified, Rookie Modified, Street Stock, Thumper, Hobby Stock, Hornet and Youth Hornet. There will be special events during the day to benefit the March of Dimes. A silent auction will feature items autographed by Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder and Oklahoma basketball coach Lon Kruger. Other items include Kansas City Royals tickets and Wichita State women’s sports packages.

    PARK CITY — The Wichita Wild will host the unbeaten Omaha Beef at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Hartman Arena in Champions Professional Indoor Football League play. Wichita is 5-1 while Omaha is 4-0. The two teams are former members of the Indoor Football League and United Indoor Football Assocation. The two have split the last eight meetings 4-4. Omaha is coming off a 55-49 win over Lincoln last week. Wichita edged Bloomington 49-35 last week.
