  • Halstead splits with Kingman
    KINGMAN — The Halstead High School baseball team split a doubleheader with Kingman Tuesday in Central Kansas League play in Kingman. Halstead won the first game 11-7 and lost the second game 17-7 in five innings on the 10-run rule. In the first game, Coby Jarrell went six innings for the win, striking out six. Blake Becket pitched the seventh, striking out two. Dylan Ratzlaff went three for four hitting with two RBI. Jerry Black also went three for four hitting. Shane VanSteenburg and Tim Glassco each went two for three hitting. Joseph Stovall drove in two runs. Samuel Keeney took the loss for Kingman, striking out nine. Braxton Bangert went three for five hitting with an RBI. Jacob Claycomb, Keeney, Dillon Burnett, Brant Boswell, Tanner Krueger and Parker Maloney each had two hits. In the second game, Kingman’s Claycomb went the distance for the win, striking out two. Krueger went three for three hitting with four RBIs. Austin Taylor went four for five hitting with two RBIs. Claycomb went three for five with an RBI. Keeney and Eric Crowe each went two for three with two RBIs. Bangert also drove in two runs. Sean Boston took the loss for Halstead. Dakota Hoffman went two for three with two RBIs. Black also drove in a pair of runs. VanSteenburg, Stovall, Glassco and Beckett each had two hits. Halstead is 3-8, 3-5 in CKL play. The Dragons host Pratt Tuesday.

    Moundridge sweeps Bennington
    MOUNDRIGE — The Moundridge High School baseball team swept a Heart of America League twinbill Tuesday in Moundridge. The Wildcats won both games 4-1. In the first game, Jaden Schmidt went the distance for Moundridge, allowing a run on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Chase Stucky went two for three hitting. Lane Thornhill took the loss for Bennington. Garrett Higgins went the distance for Moundridge in the second game, striking out two. Cameron Stanley took the loss for Bennington, striking out three. Hunter Enyart went two for three hitting for Moundridge. Zach Fief went two for three hitting for Bennington. Moundridge plays Friday at Inman.

    Larks fall to Hutch CC
    HESSTON — The Hesston College baseball team fell to Hutchinson Community College 9-5 Tuesday in Hesston. Tied 5-5 after three innings, Hutchinson scored a run in the fourth and three in th fifth. Josh Markel, 4-2, threw four innings of relief for Hutchinson for the win, Markel struck out four. Hesston starter Brandon Kutrubs took the loss. Christian Cox went four for five hitting for Hutchinson, driving in three runs. Dakota Shadoan drove in two runs. For Hesston, Stefon Griddine went three for four with an RBI. Devin Wood drove in two runs. Hutchinson improves to 14-24. Hesston is 19-13 and hosts Brown Mackie at 1 p.m. Saturday.
