Halstead drops games to Lyons

HALSTEAD The Halstead High School baseball team dropped a pair of games to Lyons Tuesday in Central Kansas League play in Halstead. Halstead lost the first game 12-1 in five innings on the 10-run rule. Halstead lost the second game 10-0. In the first game, Cole Brady pitched for the win for Lyons, striking out six. Jacob Buckman was two for four hitting with four RBIs. Ryan McClure was two for four with two RBIs. Sean Boston took the loss for Halstead. Coby Jarrell went two for two hitting. Dakota Hoffman drove in a run. In the second game, Lyons pitcher McClure threw 3 2-3 innings, striking out eight. Grady Kirkhart went three innings, striking out two. Brady went four for four hitting with an RBI. Kirkhart went three for four with three RBIs. Mitchell Vincent went two for three with two RBIs. Jarrell took the loss for Halstead, striking out four. Shane VanSteenburg went two for three hitting. Halstead falls to 2-6 and hosts Kingman Friday.

Bethel swept by Wesleyan

SALINA The Bethel College softball team dropped a pair of games to Kansas Wesleyan Saturday in KCAC play in Salina. Kansas Wesleyan won the first game 12-0 and the second game 6-2. In the first game, Lakin Thompson took the loss for Bethel. Chelsea Reid went four innings for KWU to get the win. Reid struck out four. Hannah Holt pitched the fifth and struck out two. Morgan Jacobs, Noelle Skanderson, Kylee Timberlake and Hannah Bapst each had two hits for the Coyotes. Kim Patterson hit a home run and drove in three runs. Sanderson hit a home run and drove in two runs. Wesleyan scored nine runs in the first inning. In the second game, Wesleyan led 4-0 after four innings. Bethel scored two runs on a Lauren Franz two-run home run in the top of the fifth. KWU came back with a pair of runs. Sarah Cunningham went two for three hitting for Bethel. Rachel Unruh took the loss for Bethel. Morgan Jacobs and Shelby Hubbard each posted two hits for KWU. Kylee Timberlake hit a home run. Daria Leid went the distance for KWU, striking out 10. Kansas Wesleyan improves to 27-4, 8-0 in KCAC play. Bethel falls to 1-16, 0-6 in KCAC play. Bethel hosts Tabor at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kelsch Field.
