HILLSBORO — The Halstead Dragon golf team claimed the top two medalists and the team title of the Hillsboro Invitational Friday at the Hillsboro Municipal Golf Course.?Halstead posted a team score of 357, 17 strokes better than second-place Bennington. Chapman was third at 378, followed by Goessel at 378, Hesston at 408, Hillsboro at 425, Centre at 429, Salina St. John Military at 432 and Minneapolis at 442.?Nathan Gamache was the top medalist at 80, followed by teammate Taylor Nemeth at 85. Blake Bohling was 11th at 95. Cory Armendariz was 14th at 97.?For Goessel, Tyler Schulz was seventh at 92, followed by Trey Schmidt in eighth at 93 and Lucas Hiebert in 12th at 95.?Hesston was led by Brook Martin in 15th at 98.?Hesston competes Monday at the Andover Central Invitational at the Terradyne Country Club in Wichita. Goessel competes Tuesday at the Peabody-Burns Invitational at the Fox Ridge Golf Course in Newton. Halstead competes April 15 at the Sterling Invitational.

ANDOVER — The Hesston High School boys’ tennis team tied for second Thursday at the eight-team Andover Invitational.?Wichita Independent won the team title with 60 points. Andover and Hesston tied for second with 51 points. The Andover white squad was fourth with 40 points, followed by Valley Center at 31, Andover Central at 31, Wellington at 11 and Neodesha at five.?Hesston was led by Collin Martin, who won the second singles title with an 8-0 win over Aditya Kulkarni of Andover. Keegan LeFevre finished fourth at first singles.?Dean Dahlsten and Jacob Penner finished third at first doubles. Zachary Baldauf and Grant Dahlsten finished third at second doubles.?“We juggled our lineup some, due to several kids having conflicts, but I am happy with the way our kids competed,” Hesston coach Mark Dahlsten said. “Given the limited practice time we have had recently, I am pretty pleased with where we are.”?Hesston competes with a split squad Tuesday, competing at the Salina Central Invitational and the Sterling Invitational.
