  • Six state medalists back for Railers

  • The Newton High School track teams have six state medalists returning, along with seven other qualifiers.?Tad Remsberg begins his ninth year as head track coach. He is assisted by Tony Hein (sprints, jumps), Richard Mick (distance), Justin Helmer (distance, high jump), Pete Anderson (shot put, discus), Justin Rayburn (javelin), Cory Buchta (pole vault) and Mario Nava (sprints, pole vault).?The Railer girls were second in the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I, first at regionals and third in the Class 5A state meet.?The Railer boys won the league meet, took second at regionals and ninth at state,?The Railer girls will be led by Brooke Regier, who was second in the discus and fourth in the shot put; Andrea Baron, who was sixth in the 100-meter high hurdles; and Lauren Anderson, who was a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay.?Other state qualifiers back for the girls included Elyse Bergquist in the 3,200-meter run, Kasey Stucky in the 3,200-meter run and Abby Regier from the 4x400-meter relay team.?Medalists back for the boys include Cory Martens, who was fifth in the long jump; Seth Hill, who was sixth in the long jump; and Matt Willis, who was fourth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and seventh in the 110-meter high hurdles.?Other state qualifiers back include Zach Gaede in the 4x400-meter rleay, Austin Krogmeier in the high jump, Ryan Stuchlik in the 4x800-meter relay and Mark Kreider in the 4x800-meter relay.?The Railers have a total of 114 athletes on the pre-season roster this season.
