  • Incumbents sweep North Newton

    With 1,079 votes cast, the North Newton City Council Election was won by the three incumbents on the ballot.
    Jim Goering placed first, with 283 votes for 26.23 percent. Jane Schmidt, who was appointed to the council to end a turn vacated by Bill Hake, picked up 261 votes, or 24.19 percent. Gregg Dick, the final incumbent on the ballot, received 254 votes or 23 percent.
    Two challengers, Kurt Friesen and Gwen Neufeld, were unable to get enough votes to unseat the incumbents.
    The winners will serve four year terms on the council.
