  • Hesston opens?track season

    ANDALE — The Hesston High School track teams opened the season Thursday at the Andale Relays.?No team scores were kept at the meet.?For the Hesston girls, Taylor Valdez won the 400-meter dash in 1:04.28.?The 4x100-meter relay team of Jessanna Nebel, Kylie Brenneman, Hannah Schmitt and Valdez took second in 52.24.?the 4x800-meter relay team of Madi Wedel, Cami Richardson, Katelyn Hageman and Mikala Heddin finished third in 11:12.83.?Heddin took third in the 800-meter run in 2:39.11. Nebel took third in the 300-meter low hurdles in 51.41.?For the Hesston boys, Ryan Schadler won the 200-meter dash in 23.14, the 400-meter dash in 51.20 and took second in the 100-meter dash in 11.51. Schadler also won the long jump in 21-7 1/2.?Drew Hageman took third in the 1,600-meter run in 4:56.85 and third in the 3,200-meter run in 10:35.83.?The 4x100-meter weightman relay team of Samuel Blosser, Darien Chapin, Landon Wedel and Bryan Medina took third in 56.19.?Hesston competes Tuesday at the Hillsboro quint.

    Bethel softball?team swept

    LEAVENWORTH — The Bethel College softball team dropped both ends of its conference opener Thursday at Saint Mary.?Bethel lost the first game 5-4 and the second game 6-5.?In the first game, Bethel outhit USM 11-7, but was hampered by four errors.?Kelly Toll went five innings for a no-decision, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Rachel Unruh took the loss, allowing three unearned runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.?Becca Bradley went two for three hitting for Bethel. Shiann Wickham went two for four.?In the second game, Lakin Thompson took the complete-game loss, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts.?Mary Sheridan went two for three hitting. Kylee Gragg went two for four hitting.?Bethel falls to 1-12, 0-2 in KCAC play. Bethel hosts Ottawa at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Kelsch Field.
