Nathaniel Lynn Alumbaugh, 30, died at his home on March 18, 2013.
Nathaniel was born on Aug. 13, 1982, to Gary and Jeanenne (Rodgers) Alumbaugh in Newton. Nathaniel was one of two children, with a brother, Nichalous.
Nathaniel attended Hesston and Newton schools. He was a graduate of Newton High School. He attended Wichita State University, where he studied graphic design. He worked as a graphic designer for many companies in the Wichita area.
Nathaniel participated in 4-H and Boy Scouts in elementary school. He was a gifted artist with special skills in pen and ink sketches. He was a certified scuba diver and shared many dives with his father. He had a special place in his heart for children and animals.
He is survived by his parents, Gary and Jeanenne Alumbaugh; his brother, Nichalous; honorary brother and sister, Kelcey and Amanda Church; and cousin/niece, Natalie Church.
A service of celebration will be at Grace Community Church on Monday, March 25, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 24, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. A committal will be at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in rural Newton prior to the memorial service at 10 a.m. (open to the public).
Memorials in Nathan’s memory have been established with the Marine Corps Relief Society or USO; both organizations helped Nathan’s brother Nick in his time of need to be with his family. Memorials may be left in care of Petersen Funeral Home.

Nathaniel’s name means “Gift of God.” He will be remembered as a gifted man who touched many hearts. The family is deeply saddened and feels a tremendous emptiness with his passing, but they will have many enduring memories that will survive.
