  • MOUNDRIDGE — Three area teams claimed wins in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A sub-state girls’ basketball tournament in Moundridge.?Host Moundridge opened the post-season with a 76-16 thumping of Heart of America League rival Canton-Galva.?The Wildcats led 18-1 after the first quarter and 38-5 at the half. Leading 60-7 after three quarters, the running clock kicked in at the start of the fourth quarter.?All but one Moundridge player who dressed scoerd. MacKenzie Suderman led the Wildcats with 15 points. Tiffany Huxman and Ashley Holler added nine points each.?Canton-Galva, which ends the season 2-19, was led by Erika Smith with four points. Four other players scored three points.?Moundridge improves to 18-3.?The Berean Academy girls downed Central of Burden 53-22. Berean led 21-9 at the half, putting things away with a 13-4 third quarter.?Xannie Quiring led 16-4 Berean with 14 points.Abbi Landis and Hannah Weber added eight points each.?Central, 5-16, was led by Allie Moore and Daydi Loewer with eight points each.?The Peabody-Burns girls advanced to state with a 47-46 overtime win over Herington. Peabody-Burns led 30-19 at the half, but the Railers got back in the game with a 14-2 run in the third quarter. The Warriors came back in the fourth quarter to get the win.?Brandee Burnette and Rayna Barnes scored 14 points each for Peabody-Burns, 10-11.?Cora Jones led 10-11 Herington with 19 points. Rikkii Hart added 11 points.?Chase County downed Oxford 60-25. Chase County broke to a 40-14 lead at the half. Megan Jirak scored 19 points for the 12-9 Bulldogs. Laney Watts scored 15 points and Cassidy Kelsheimer added 11.?Danielle Payne scored eight points for Oxford, 8-13.
