McPherson men?win KCAC
PARK CITY — Seeded last in the eight-team field, the McPherson College men’s basketball team won the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference post-season tournament with an 87-80 win over third-seeded Sterling Tuesday at Hartman Arena.?McPherson led 39-36 at the half.?Adam Bruner led McPherson with 27 points, followed by Samson Shivers with 17, Joey Powers with 13 and Newton High grad Jake Reinhardt with 11 points and nine rebounds.?Sterling, which ends the season 21-11, was led by Braden Thompson with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Darius Alexander scored 15 points. Raheem Odomes scored 14 points.?McPherson, 15-17, advances to the NAIA Division II national tournament, which begins March 6 in Point Lookout, Mo.
PARK CITY — The Southwestern College women’s basketball team used a 57-point second half to get by Kansas Wesleyan Tuesday in the championship finals of the KCAC post-season tournament at Hartman Arena.?Southwestern led 38-33 at the half. The Moundbuilders shot 22 of 35 in the second half, while Kansas Wesleyan hit just eight of 25 in the second half.?Jana Reichenberger led Southwestern with 16 points. Montana Rickey scored 14 points. Annjelina Robinson and Jordan Hobbs scored 10 points each.?Alecia Smith scored 20 points for Kansas Wesleyan, 18-13. Christina Cassity scored 16 points with 11 rebounds.?Southwestern, 23-7, reached the NAIA Division II national championships, which begins March 6 in Sioux City, Iowa.
Baseball club?evaluations set

Evaluations for the Newton Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken Jr. baseball and softball leagues have been scheduled for the 2013 season.?Registration forms are available at the USD 373 Electronic Back Pack and at the Newton Activity Center.?There will be Cal Ripken Jr. baseball teams for players 10 to 12 years old by April 30. Babe Ruth Baseball teams will be for players ages 13 to 15 by April 30. Softball will have 14-U, 12-U and 10-U teams. The softball age determination date is Dec. 31, 2012.?Evaluations for 12-U baseball teams will be March 9 and 16 at Centennial Park field 2.
