  • GREAT BEND — The Newton High School bowling teams qualified Melina Schroeder to the Class 5-4-3-2-1A state championships at the regionals Saturday in Great Bend.?The Railer boys finished fourth out of 12 teams, while the Railer girls were fifth. The top two boys’ and girls’ teams qualify for state.?In the boys’ team competition, Salina Sacred Heart won the team title at 2,566, followed by Great Bend at 2,556, Cheney at 2,416, Newton at 2,406 and McPherson at 2,318.?In the girls’ team standings, Buhler won at 2,178, followed by Great Bend at 2,161, McPherson at 2,088, Liberal at 1,974 and Newton at 1,943.?In the girls’ individual competition, Kirsten Allen of Buhler was first at 708, followed by Miranda Hejny of Great Bend at 593 and Schroeder of Newton in third at 570.?Allen had the top two games of 258 and 236. Schroeder had the third high game of 233.?McKenzie Senn bowled a 486, followed by Taylor Perkins at 459, Jordann Parks at 405, Lexi Pauls at 372 and Kami Bostick at 346.?In the boys’ competition, Dakota Conaway of Great Bend was the top medalist at 705, followed by Jeff Meitler of Great bend at 665 and Joel Morey of McPherson at 657.?Conaway had the high game of 254, followed by Tanner Clovis of Sacred Heart at 249 and Meitler at 247.?Newton was led by Brogan Owens at 591, who missed a state berth by nine pins, followed by Gabe Serrano at 587, Brian Esau at 581, Austin Gronau at 545, Jerrod Ashcraft at 540 and Issac Fitzjarrald at 523. Serrano had Newton’s high game of 235.?The state meet is 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Northrock Lanes.
