    HALSTEAD — The Halstead High School girls’ basketball team downed Nickerson 45-23 Friday in Central Kansas League play in Halstead. Halstead led 18-6 at the half, holding the Panthers scoreless in the second quarter. Madison Chronister led Nickerson with nine points. Jena Black led Halstead with 16 points. Halstead is 7-10, 2-4 in CKL play. Halstead plays at 6 p.m. today at Hillsboro.

    ELBING — The Berean Academy girls’ basketball team held Hutchinson Trinity to four points in the first half, holding on for a 39-30 win Friday in Heart of America League play in Elbing. Berean led 13-0 after the first quarter and 21-4 at the half, holding off a Celtic comeback in the second half. Xannie Quiring scored 10 points for Berean Academy. Brooke Racette led Trinity with 14 points. Berean Academy is 13-3, 6-1 in HOAL play. Berean plays today at Sedgwick.

    HALSTEAD — The Halstead Dragon boys kept Nickerson at arm’s length most of the night, pulling away for a 51-41 win Friday in Central Kansas League play in Halstead. The Dragons led 25-20 at the half. Blake Bohling led Halstead with 18 points. Nickerson, 4-13 overall and 1-5 in CKL play, was led by Ethan Belden with 12 points. Halstead is 7-10 overall and 3-3 in CKL play. Halstead plays at 7:30 p.m. today at Hillsboro.

    INMAN — The Moundridge High School boys’ basketball team was upset by Heart of America League rival Inman 60-56 Friday in Inman. Moundridge trailed 28-20 at the half, but took a 44-37 lead after three quarters. Inman closed out the game with a 23-12 fourth quarter, hitting nine of 12 free throws in the final period. Josh Miller and Alex Ropp scored 16 points each for Inman. Justin Friesen added 12 points. The Teutons improve to 12-5, 6-2 in HOAL play. Moundridge was led by Hunter Enyart with 21 points. Moundridge falls to 12-5, 6-2 in HOAL play. The Wildcats end league play at 7:30 p.m. today, hosting Ell-Saline.

Peabody-Burns led 19-6 after the first quarter, but the Bluebirds mounted an 11-3 run in the second quarter. After a near-even third quarter, Peabody-Burns put the game away in the fourth. Christian Gard led Peabody-Burns with 16 points, followed by Austin Savage with 15 and Hunter Pickens with 12. Trey Schmidt scored 10 points for Goessel. Peabody-Burns, 9-8 overall and 4-2 in WSL play, hosts Little River today. Goessel, 8-9 overall and 4-4 in Wheat State League play, hosts Udall today.
