  • HESSTON — The Hesston College women’s basketball team dropped a pair of games in a three-day span. Saturday in Nevada, Mo., Hesston lost to 20th-ranked (NJCAA Division II) Cottey College 73-62. Monday at Yost Center, Hesston fell to Kansas City (Kan.) Community College 67-49. The Larks drop their third straight game, falling to 9-14, 2-6 in NJCAA Division II, Region VI play. Against Cottey, Hesston trailed 39-27 at the half. Cottey outscored Hesston 18-3 from 3-point range. Cottey, 14-1, was led by Blakelee Sanders with 22 points. Dayna Turnbull scored 13 points and Kat Zumalt scored 10 points. For Hesston, Bryana Young, Makayla Ladwig and Destiva Davis scored 12 points each. Against KCK, Hesston trailed 39-24 at the half. Paris Johnson and Samantha Hurst each scored 12 points for KCK, 9-14 overall and 3-5 in Region VI play. Nage Umutlu added 11 points. Khrystian Glover, Kelli Christenson and Davis scored seven points each for Hesston. Hesston plays at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Yost Center against the Tabor junior varsity.
