  • Glann wins lifting meet
    AUGUSTA — Newton High School junior Ashlyn Glann won the 123-pound girls’ class of the Augusta powerlifting meet Saturday. Glann set meet records in all three of her lifts in her class. She had a 140-pound bench press, a 225-pound squat and a 155-pount clean for a 520-pound total. She also was named the top female lightweight lifter of the meet.
    Middle school wrestlers 2-1
    The Newton middle schools wrestling team opened the season 2-1 in dual meets. Newton downed Goddard Eisenhower 45-39 and Buhler Prairie Hills 70-22. Newton lost to Valley Center 59-21. Individual results were not listed.
    Hole-in-one shot in Hesston
    HESSTON — Dennis McCreary shot a hole-in-one Jan. 17 at the Hesston Golf Course. McCreary used a nine-iron to ace the 107-yard eighth hole. Witnesses includes Floyd Sowers, Lowell Roth and Mike Tate.
    Bowhunters convention set
