Good teams to watch
The top seed of this year's invitational is Kapaun-Mt Carmel. Undefeated entering the tourney, Kapaun is the top ranked team and defending state champ in class 5A.
Newton enters the tournament 8-1, ranked third in Class 5A. Garden City enters the tourney ranked 9-1, ranked seventh in Class 6A.
Bishop Miege is 5-3 at tourney time, but ranked 10th in class 5A. Andover, 7-3, is ranked ninth in class 5A.
Olathe Northwest was the top seed of the 2012 tournament, finishing second in class 6A last season. They enter the tournament 6-3 overall.
3. Early starts.
You can take in the finals of the tournament and still have some evening left to celebrate — game time is 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Why you should go
"It’s going to be a war every night, when you consider the competition at this tournament," Newton coach Randy Jordan said. "It’s going to be a great experience for us. It will help us get ready for the finish of our regular season and our post-season. There are several teams capable of winning this tournament — and we’re one of them.
