    ELBING — The Goessel Bluebird girls kicked off the Eli J. Walter Invitational with a 42-34 win over Leon-Bluestem Monday night in Elbing. Goessel led 19-13 at the half. Jessica Harvey and Alex Hiebert scored 14 points each for Goessel, 6-5. Candis Remsberg led 3-8 Bluestem with 14 points. Hannah Davis added nine points. Goessel advances to the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Berean Academy.

    LOST SPRINGS — The Peabody-Burns Warrior boys fell to Solomon 61-58 Saturday in the Centre Invitational in rural Lost Springs. Solomon led 23-22 at the half and 43-37 after three quarters. Solomon was led by Josh Burdine with 30 points. James Villalpando added 11 points. Peabody-Burns was led by Christian Gard with 14 points, followed by Austin Savage with 11. Hunter Pickens had 12 rebounds. Solomon finishes 2-1 in the tourney. Peabody-Burns finished 1-2. Solomon improves to 10-3. Peabody-Burns falls to 7-5 and plays Jan. 29 at Elyria Christian.

Hesston led 44-29 at the half and led by as many as 17 early in the second half. Union hit a 3-pointer with six seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game. Hesston was led by Mahlon Jones and Pierre Zook with 30 points each. Alex Santiago and Tra Smoot added 12 points each. For Union, 6-12, Ben Vasconcellos scored 27 points, followed by Teddy Griffin with 20, Chavez Morris with 19, Kyle Carlson with 13 and Sam Adams with 10. Carlson had 10 rebounds. Hesston led 32-23 at the half, but shot just eight of 41 in the second half to get outscored 40-24. Hesston was outscored 28-5 from the free throw line, 18-3 in the second half. Central, 7-10, was led by Eleishia Bibbs with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Maria Glidden added 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sophia Yarger added 12 points.
