  • SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick High School girls’ basketball team kept falling behind, catching up and falling behind again. The Cardinals fell to Heart of America League rival 51-46 Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the 34th Sedgwick Invitational. Down 38-31 at the end of the third quarter, the Cardinals tied the game 45-45 on a Audrey Bebermeyer trey with 1:47 remaining in regulation. Inman outscored Sedgwick 6-1 in the remaining time. “We got down big in the first quarter,” Sedgwick coach Aaron Stucky said. “Then we did a nice job of coming back, playing hard. We didn’t have enough at the end to finish it. Other than the first quarter, we played pretty well. We finally started hitting our shots tonight. Every time we came back. They seemed to have an answer.” Inman, 4-7, was led by Kaitlyn Goalden with 25 points. Naomi Williams added 10 points. Audrey Bebermeyer scored 19 points for Sedgwick, followed by AnnaBelle Little with 12 points. Sedgwick trailed 14-2 after the first quarter. The Cardinals fought back to get within one at the half, 22-21. Inman led by as many as seven in the fourth quarter before Sedgwick fought back late in the game. Inman faces top-seeded Fairfield at 6 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals. Sedgwick, 3-8, meets Canton-Galva at 6 p.m. Thursday in the old gym in the consolation semifinals. “I told the girls, we’re still looking forward,” Stucky said. “We have two games this week and we have a chance to get two wins. When you’re playing in a tournament, you don’t have time to get down after a loss. You have to just to look forward and move on.”
