    BURRTON — The Goessel High School boys’ basketball team fell to Hutchinson Central Christian 60-40 Saturday in the consolation finals of the Burrton Invitational. Goessel trailed 14-12 after the first quarter, but the Cougars went on a 19-7 run in the second period. Kyle Patrick led Central Christian, 9-4, with 17 points. Jared Starkey scored 12 points and Ben Krehbiel added 11. Goessel was led by Davis Cook with 16 points. Goessel fall to 7-5 and plays Friday at Moundridge.

    Seventh-place Fairfield 59, Burrton 53
    BURRTON — The host Burrton Chargers were edged by rival Fairfield 59-53 Saturday in the seventh-place game of the Burrton Invitational. Fairfield led 10-5 after the first quarter and 31-20 at the half. Fairfield hit 11 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off Burrton. Fairfield, 7-6, was led by Trace Basye with 16 points. Ryan Ewy scored 14 points. Eric Schoenecker added 10 points. Trae Lane scored 16 points for Burrton. Caleb Hurst scored 13 points. Kris Lane and Daniel Bingham scored 10 points each. Burrton is 2-10 and plays Jan. 29 at Pretty Prairie.

    Rupp Invitational Seventh place Haven 60, Halstead 54
    HALSTEAD — The Halstead High School boys’ basketball team ended play in the Adolph Rupp Invitational with a 60-54 loss to league rival Haven in the seventh-place game. Haven led 33-31 at the half. Halstead then took a 42-40 lead at the end of the third quarter, but Haven finished the game on a 20-12 run. Luke Johnson scored 11 points to lead Haven, 10-3. For Halstead, Blake Bohling scored 17 points, followed by Devan Herb with 16 and Anthony Santiago with 12 points. Halstead is 4-9 and plays Jan. 29 at Lyons.

    HILLSBORO — The Hesston Swather boys claimed a third-place finish in the Hillsboro Trojan Classic after a 53-46 win over Wamego Saturday. Hesston led 24-23 at the half and made a 13-6 run in the third quarter, holding off the Red Raiders in the fourth quarter. Grant Raleigh led Hesston with 19 points. Wyatt McKinney added nine points. Wamego, 8-3, was led by Dakota Turner with 15 points amd Isaac Poe with nine. Hesston, 10-2, hosts Hoisington Saturday in non-league play.

    HILLSBORO — The Hesston Swather girls rebounded from its first loss of the season, stopping Republic County 45-30 Saturday in the third-place game of the Hillsboro Trojan Classic. Hesston broke to a 20-12 lead at the half, extending it to 33-20 at the end of the third period. Hesston was 19 of 39 from the field, while Republic County was nine of 33. Ashley Weaver led Hesston with 14 points, followed by Cami Richardson with 14. Kelsi Unruh scored 10 points. Kiara McCall scored 12 points for Republic County, 11-2. Hesston improves to 11-1 and hosts Hoisington Saturday.

Jessica Harvey and Alex Hiebert scored 14 points each for Goessel, 6-5. Candis Remsberg led 3-8 Bluestem with 14 points. Hannah Davis added nine points. Goessel advances to the semifinals Thursday against Berean Academy.
