  • DODGE CITY — The Newton High School boys’ basketball team got off to a slow start, leading to a 44-33 loss to the Dodge City Red Demons Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Dodge City Tournament of Champions. The Railers trailed 9-3 after the first quarter and 21-11 at the half. Newton was three of 14 shooting in the first half, while Dodge City was eight of 21. Dodge City, 5-3, was led by Shaphan Gross and Jace Larsen with 11 points each. Newton was led by Grant Walker with eight points. Newton falls to 3-6 and plays Wichita South at 3:30 p.m. today in the consolation semifinals.
