    HESSTON — The Hesston College men’s basketball team downed the Friends University junior varsity 88-69 Thursday in Hesston. The win was the seventh straight for the Larks, now 11-5. Hesston led 43-29 at the half. Pierre Zook led the Larks with 21 points. Armond Patterson scored 13 points with 12 rebounds. Mahlon Jones and William Barnes each scored 12 points. Hesston held a 49-27 rebounding edge. Brett Williams led the junior Falcons with 18 points, followed by Justin Johnson with 12 and Lawrence Anderson with 11. Hesston plays at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Union (Neb.).

    HILLSBORO — The Hillsboro Trojan girls are headed to the finals of the Hillsboro Trojan Classic after a 52-34 win over rival Hesston Thursday. Hillsboro took control of the game early, leading 25-12 at the half. Hillsboro was 20 of 38 from the field, while Hesston was 10 of 37. Tena Loewen led Hillsboro with 16 points, followed by Danae Bina with 11 and Addie Lackey with 10. Kelsey Unruh led Hesston with 14 points. Hillsboro, 11-1, plays the Republic County-Wamego winner at 6:15 p.m. Saturday in the championship game. Hesston, 10-1, plays the Wamego-Republic loser at 2:45 p.m. Saturday for third place.

Hesston trailed 14-4 after the first quarter and 18-14 at the half. Holcomb was able to pull away in the third quarter and hold the Threshers off in the fourth quarter. Tyler LaSalle scored 13 points for Holcomb, 8-2. Hesston, 9-2, was led by Grant Raliegh with 12 points. Holcomb plays the Wamego-Republic County winner at 8 p.m. Saturday in the championship game. Hesston plays the Wamego-Republic County loser at 4:30 p.m. Saturday for third place.
