    HILLSBORO — The Hesston College men’s basketball team downed the Tabor College junior varsity 83-58 Tuesday in Hillsboro. The Larks led 38-27 at the half, shooting 55.2 percent in the second half. Mahlon Jones led Hesston with 15 points, followed by William Barnes with 14 and Alex Santiago with 11. For Tabor, Anthony Simmons, Jesse Allen and Nic Leppke scored 10 points each. Hesston is 11-5 and hosts the Friends junior varsity at 7 p.m. Thursday.

    BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The Hesston College men’s basketball team downed Rhema Bible Training College 79-71 Saturday on the road. Hesston trailed 43-36 at the half, but rallied in the second half for the win. Mahlon Jones scored 20 points for Hesston. Armond Patterson scored 19 points with 13 rebounds. William Barnes and Pierre Zook added 13 points each. Parris Hoskins scored 16 points with 10 rebounds for Rhema, 2-11. Rod Altidor scored 15 points, followed by Dewayne Foster with 14.

    HALSTEAD — The Moundridge Wildcat boys used a 23-6 fourth quarter to shake off host Halstead in the opening round of the Adolph Rupp Invitational. Moundridge led 22-9 after the first quarter and 26-22 at the half. Halstead took a 33-31 lead after three quarters. Moundridge was 16 of 19 from the line, 10 of 12 in the fourth quarter. Daniel Ratzlaff scored 17 points for Moundridge, 7-3. Tyler Ratzlaff added 11 points. Anthony Santiago led Halstead with 13 points. Blake Bohling added 11. Halstead, 4-7, plays Cheney at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the consolation semifinals. Moundridge plays Rose Hill at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the championship semifinals.

    ELYRIA — The Goessel High School boys’ basketball team downed Elyria Christian 49-23 Friday in Wheat State League play. Goessel led 15-4 after the first quarter and 22-12 at the half. The Bluebirds continued to pull away in the second half. Davis Cook scored 16 points with 11 rebounds for Goessel. Trey Schmitt added 14 points.

    VALLEY CENTER — The Newton High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team saw a fourth-quarter comeback fall one point short, falling to Valley Center 42-41 Tuesday in Valley Center. The Railers trailed 26-11 at the half and 40-22 after three quarters. Newton plays Jan. 28 at Kapaun-Mt. Carmel.
