  • Bethel men hold off Bulldogs

  • The Bethel College men’s basketball team finally claimed its first conference win of the season, coming at the end of the first half of Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Bethel topped rival McPherson College 65-63 Wednesday at Thresher Gym. Cody Cape’s putback at the buzzer gave the Threshers the win, snapping a five-game losing streak. The game was tied 31-31 at the half. The Threshers led by as many as 12 with 12:12 remaining in regulation. Bethel was led by Adam Arciniega with 17 points and nine rebounds. Lee Griffin added 11 points. Onesimus Moore and Cape each added 10 points. McPherson, 7-13 overall and 1-8 in KCAC play, was led by Joey Powers with 13 points and Mason Hewitt with 12. McPherson was 11 of 39 shooting in the second half for 28.2 percent. Bethel improves to 3-17, 1-8 in KCAC play. Bethel faces conference leader Saint Mary at 7 p.m. Saturday in Leavenworth.
