Peggy Wambold, member artist of Carriage Factory Art Gallery, will demonstrate how to paint sunflowers during Newton’s Third Thursday festivities at the gallery from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 17.
Wambold, a retired art teacher, taught in Kansas, Nebraska and New Jersey schools before retiring and moving to Newton with her husband, Bob, three years ago.
Wambold’s exhibit and demonstration of sunflower painting is an early celebration of Kansas Day, celebrating the admission of Kansas as the 34th state in the Union. The sunflower was selected as the official state flower in 1903.
Bob Wambold will provide Kansas inspired music on the piano, and Kansas-themed snacks will be served. Carriage Factory Art Gallery is located at 128 E. Sixth St.
