  • A beach on Main Street in downtown Newton?
It's likely to make people walking down the sidewalk stop and do a double-take, but the beach scene in the storefront window — complete with sand and a palm tree — is part of Karen Adams' efforts to bring a taste of the Caribbean to Newton.
Adams recently opened a restaurant called "Island Blue" at 513 N. Main St. in Newton. The Newton Chamber celebrated the new restaurant with a ribbon cutting Thursday.
Adams said opening the restaurant was a dream of hers, and she hopes people in the community will give it a try.
"I have brought a little bit of the islands to Newton," she said.
Items on the menu include coconut, parmesan or seasoned grilled shrimp; an island chicken wrap with lime marinated chicken; Jamaican Jerk rib eye; grilled garlic steak; "Why's the Rum Gone" chicken with rum lime marinade; key lime pie; and more.
"It's all really fresh and new and different," Adams said.
    Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays through Saturdays.
