  • Lara Schill, home health clinical director for Progressive Home Health and Hospice, said her business's first two years in Newton have gone by quickly.Since they've opened in Newton, they have added a tele-health monitoring system to their range of services. They've also opened offices in Hutchinson and Salina."We're here, we've expanded," Schill said. "... We're still going strong."The organization offers services for a variety of ages, ranging from birth to the elderly. Schill said they also specialize in wound care; physical and speech therapy; and chronic disease management. The tele-health monitoring system is a wireless modem box that can check stats such as blood pressure, pulse and weight multiple times a day. It also can issue reminders to take medications.Schill said thanks to the box, it's easy for staff to monitor the health of patients, and perhaps save them an unnecessary trip to the hospital."It's worked really, really well," she said.Progressive's goal is to keep patients in the home as long as possible, instead of going to a nursing home. She said patients like the fact that if they need to transition to the hospice program, they can keep the same nurses, providing for a continuity in care."It makes them feel a little more secure," Schill said.Mike Martinez thanked Progressive staff for the care given to his family."We would like ... to thank the staff at Progressive Health and Hospice for the wonderful care given to our mother and grandmother during her final days with us," he said. "They were very caring, understanding and professional."The organization has five nurses at its Newton office, and Schill said Progressive sees its work as a ministry."Knowing I'm giving back to the community has just been such a Godsend for me," she said.Richard M. Glover II, MD, said he recommends the services of Progressive."I have truly enjoyed working with Progressive Hospice and Home Health because it has allowed me more complete access with my patients," he said. "I feel that I am able to help my patients during recovery and then at the end of their lives. Hospice is a comforting resource for my patients and also a support system for the family members."For more information about Progressive, call 804-4885.
