Francis J. “Frank” Walters, 89, of Topeka, died Dec. 23, 2012, at St. Francis Health Center.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1923, in Hays, the son of Jacob Peter and Amalia (Staab) Walters.
He owned and operated the Halstead Hospital Coffee Shop for 28 years and the Shawnee County Court House Snack Bar for eight years.
Frank was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and the Topeka Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired.
Frank will be most remembered for his love of his children and his grandchildren. His family was very important to him.
Frank married Betty Marie Schmich on Nov. 16, 1968, at Herculaneum, Mo. She survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Sheila (Darrell) Stevenson of Branson, Mo., and Brenda (Steve) Dunning of Hutchinson; a brother, George Walters of Placentia, Calif.; a sister, Alice Gerstner of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren, Emily Walch, Jenny Macomber, and Hailey, Lauren and Grant Dunning; and five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kole, Addison, Bennett and Kaitlynn.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry J. Walters on Nov. 20, 1986; six brothers, Clarence, Ray, Elmer, Bill, Herb and Edward Walters; and a sister, Luella Kuhn.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at church.
Graveside inurnment will be in the Halstead Cemetery in Halstead, on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m.
