  • SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick Cardinal girls’ basketball team struggled to score against a much more physical Andale team in a 40-16 loss Friday in non-league play in Sedgwick. “We knew they were going to be pretty good,” Sedgwick coach Aaron Stucky said. “We did a pretty good job defensively for most of the game. We lost focus in the fourth quarter. When can’t score, we can’t keep up with anybody. We were either turning it over, missing layups or missing free throws. They were probably missing some shots they normally don’t miss. We were in the game at halftime. We scored first in the second half, then we disappeared on offense.” Andale, 5-0, was led by Brittany Meyer with nine points, hitting three 3-pointers. Lauren Rowland added seven points. Sedgwick, 2-5, was led by Audrey Bebermeyer with six points and AnnaBelle Little with five. Sedgwick was further hampered by four of 17 free throw shooting. Andale was seven of 10. “That would have kept us in the game a little bit longer,” Stucky said. Up 8-7, Andale closed the first quarter on a 9-0 run. Sedgwick scored the first five points of the second quarter. Andale scored the final three to lead 20-12. Sedgwick scored the first basket of the third quarter. Andale then made a 10-1 run to end the period and lead 30-15. Andale put the game away with a pair of baskets to open the fourth quarter. Sedgwick returns to play Jan. 4 , hosting sixth-ranked (KBCA, Class 2A) Ell-Saline. “They are going to be a pretty good team as well,” Stucky said. “We’ll see what we can do.”ANDALE (5-0) — R.Eck 1 2-4 1, 4; J.Eck 2 2-2 3, 6; Meyer 0 (3) 0-0 1, 9; Walstad 0 0-0 0, 0; E.Rowland 2 2-2 3, 6; Maxwell 1 0-0 0, 2; L.Rowland 3 1-2 4, 7; Martin 2 0-0 1, 4; Ebert 1 0-0 5, 2; Dimattia 0 0-0 0, 0; VenJohn 0 0-0 0, 0; TOTALS 12 (3) 7-10, 18, 40.
