  • SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick Cardinal boys’ basketball team got off to a rough start and things went downhill from there, falling to Andale 65-23 Friday in non-league play in Sedgwick. The Cardinals suffered from turnovers and cold shooting early, falling to 5-2. Andale, which hit 26 of 41 from the field, improved to 4-1. “That first quarter, we played with a lack of confidence, and Andale took advantage of that,” Sedgwick coach Darren Crumrine said. “It was tough sledding. I thought we could overcome (Andale’s height advantage) with some spacing. We didn’t play aggressive. We played scared. Andale is a good team. I’m just disappointed we didn’t rise to the occasion.” Gerad Deaver led the Indians with 17 points, followed by Hunter Knoblauch with 14. Trey Tucker led Sedgwick with eight points. Andale jumped out to a 10-0 lead. Nine Cardinal turnovers in the period allowed Andale to take a 22-4 lead at the end of the period. Things got worse in the second quarter as Andale made a 19-0 run to start the period. Andale led 41-8 at the half. Andale opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run. Drake Standefer broke the run with a 3-point shot to get the Cardinals in double figures. The Indians led 60-15 at the end of the period. Both teams dumped their benches in the fourth quarter, which was played with a running clock. “We got to look at some kids in different situations,” Crumrine said. “It’s a non-league game. I’m not going to let it ruin the start of the season we’ve had. We’re 5-2 at the break. The kids have been working hard. We just didn’t play well tonight.” Sedgwick hosts Ell-Saline at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 4. “We’ll get to Christmas break and use it to get some guys healthy and rested,” Crumrine said. “We’ll use the break to fix some things and try to become a better team.”ANDALE (4-1) — B.Knoblauch 3 1-3 2, 7; H.Knoblauch 4 (2) 0-0 2, 14; Reichenberger 0 0-0 1, 0; Bergkamp 0 1-1 0, 1; Seiler 3 1-2 2, 7; Konda 0 0-0 0, 0; Macari 2 0-0 1, 4; Hermreck 3 2-2 0, 8; Carney 2 0-0 0, 4; Walstad 0 0-0 1, 0; Blasi 0 1-2 0, 1; Roe 0 2-3 1, 2; Deaver 7 3-5 2, 17; TOTALS 24 (2) 11-18 12, 65.
