  • SEDGWICK — The Moundridge Wildcat girls used runs in the first and third quarters to get by Sedgwick 41-19 Friday in a non-league clash of Heart of America League rivals. Moundridge outscored Sedgwick 15-3 from 3-point range and 10-2 from the free throw line. “We’ve got some pretty good shooters,” Moundridge coach Kenroy Wilson said. “We turned the ball over a few times in the first half, but in the second half, we played better. The defense was nice to see. We did well rebounding. We fought for some boards tonight. Our defense was intense. We came out with a workman-like attitude.” “We struggled to shoot the ball, and unfortunately they didn’t,” Sedgwick coach Aaron Stucky said. “Everytime they were open, they knocked down a shot. Our transition defense, we wouldn’t get back and find them. Our transition defense and rebounding in the first half hurt us. We wanted them to shoot from the outside. They kept making those shots. They’re a good team.” Brooke Holloway led Moundridge, 3-2, with 13 points. MacKenzie Suderman added 11. Audrey Bebermeyer led Sedgwick, 1-4, with five points. Tied 4-4 in the first quarter, Moundridge ended the period on an 8-0 run aided by a pair of 3-point shots. Sedgwick outscored Moundridge from the field in the second quarter 9-4, but the Wildcats were seven of 10 from the free throw. Moundridge led by as many as 11 in the second quarter. A Bethanie Francis jumper with 11 seconds left in the half cut the Moundridge lead to nine, 23-14. Moundridge was six of 15 shooting in the first half. Sedgwick was six of 22. The Wildcats opened the third quarter with a 5-0 run. Ashley Holler buried a trey just before the buzzer to put Moundridge up 38-19. Moundridge won the fourth quarter 3-0. Sedgwick plays Tuesday at Inman. Moundridge plays Tuesday at home against Bennington. “Hopefully, we can go down there and give them a ballgame,” Stucky said. “They aren’t too bad of a ballteam.”MOUNDRIDGE (3-2) — Huxman 1 2-5 1, 3; Holler 0 (1) 0-0 2, 3; Schrag 0 (2) 1-2 2, 7; Siemens 1 0-0 0, 2; Stucky 0 0-0 1, 0; Ratzlaff 0 0-0 0, 0; Holloway 5 3-3 2, 13; Suderman 2 (1) 4-4 3, 11; Morrison 0 0-0 1, 0; TOTALS 8 (5) 10-14 12, 41.
