HALSTEAD — Joe M. Trego, 87, retired rural mail carrier, died Monday, December 3, 2012, at Halstead Health and Rehabilitation, Halstead, KS.
He was born December 23, 1924, at Halstead, KS, to Harry S. and Eva Mary (Reaves) Trego.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Halstead, KS.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army and was wounded twice. He was a member of Ruth-Wilson American Legion Post 231, Halstead, KS, V.F.W. Post 971, Newton, KS, Halstead Historical Society, Halstead Cemetery Association Board, Halstead Gun Club, lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited, the N.R.A., and served on the selective service board.
On April 22, 1951, he married Joanne Marr at Halstead, KS, and she died December 25, 2007.
Survivors include sons: Joseph Trego, Halstead, KS, and Jeff Trego, Roxbury, KS; daughter: Jan (Randy) Smith, Halstead, KS; sisters: Evelyn Brandenberger, Alta Loma, CA, and Elizabeth Barrett, Federal Way, WA; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother and sisters: Margaret Waltz and Mary Belle Denno.
Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead, KS. The family will be present from 6:30-8:00.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, Halstead, KS, with Rev. Tony D’Olio officiating. Burial will follow at Halstead Cemetery, Halstead, KS.
