Bethel College students celebrated the end of fall semester classes with two traditional Christmas-season events, Christmas Gala and Lighting of the Green. For Christmas Gala (held Nov. 30), faculty and staff plan and serve a special meal in a festively decorated Mem Hall, followed by a jazz concert (open to the public); carriage rides (a favorite every year, no matter how bitter the weather); the president and spouse hosting cookies, hot chocolate and visits with Santa Claus at Goerz House; and a dance. Every year on the first Sunday of Advent, 250 or more people, from campus and the wider community, surround the Green with lighted candles and have a brief time of singing carols and hearing Advent readings from the Bible. Lighting of the Green took place Dec. 2 this year.
